Annual Social Membership is a unique membership offered by the AVH. It allows fellow horse enthusiasts to become socially involved with the Hunt Club without having to ride on the hunts. It is also the next best way to experience the thrill and tradition of fox hunting without being on horseback. While social membership aids in keeping the equine industry involved in the sport, it also helps to ensure the existence of the tradition of fox hunting here in Nova Scotia. The AVH was established in 1979 and is the only Fox Hunt east of Montreal. Social members are invited to become actively involved with hunt club events or to simply remain "silent supporters". Each Sunday during hunting season, we encourage members to follow and view the hunts in the comfort of a car, take photographs, and join us afterwards to share a meal and be a part of the fun and camaraderie at the hunt breakfasts. Some of our social members participate by working "behind the scenes" at hunt meets cooking, closing gates, dragging scent, etc. Regardless of the extent of involvement, we sincerely appreciate of all our social members and the support which they provide! Our 2005 hunt club roster included 41 social members and 5 patrons members. The 2006 hunt club roster will surely exceed these numbers. Social membership dues should be renewed annually. Social members will receive invitations to the Hunt Ball (held every other year) and other social functions put on by the AVH. The next Hunt Ball is being planned for 2006.
