Radiography (x-ray) and ultrasound are two frequently used diagnostic tools that help your veterinarian determine or rule out the cause of disease. Avon Animal Hospital is happy to offer full-service radiographs in the clinic at our Windsor location. Referral options are available for an ultrasound by a board-certified radiologist (once/month) or daily/weekly through one of our sister clinics in Dartmouth.
What is the difference between a cat X-ray and a cat ultrasound?
X-ray and ultrasound are both forms of diagnostic imaging that your vet may recommend when your pet is showing signs of pain or illness. X-ray is a reasonably inexpensive way to capture still images and is most beneficial for diagnosing concerns with harder, denser tissues such as bone fractures or bladder stones. Ultrasound is best suited for softer tissue like organs and fluid or when capturing movement (e.g. the flow of blood through the heart). At times, these two diagnostic tools are used together. Other times, your veterinarian will recommend one over the other. The decision of which to choose will depend on what your vet feels the health concern is related to.
Does the clinic also do feline dental X-rays?
Yes, our small animal dental x-ray allows for imaging of both cats and dogs!
How much does a cat X-ray cost?
The cost of dental x-ray will depend on the type (e.g. individual tooth vs. full mouth) and the total number of x-rays necessary. Once we have performed a dental assessment on your cat, we can provide you with an estimate of fees related to your cat’s complete oral health assessment and treatment.
